Every year, United Way Ottawa hosts local community leaders, politicians, and celebrities, along with Ottawa’s best and brightest, to recognize extraordinary community contributions at the Community Builder of the Year Awards Gala. The CBYA’s honour the people, organizations, partnerships, agencies and neighbourhood groups that work tirelessly, passionately and collectively to help make change happen in our community.
Meet Aaron Cayer, our 2017 GenNext Award recipient.
Aaron founded the Ottawa Community Skateboard Association (OCSA) as a platform to creatively and strategically tackle community challenges and realize new opportunities. OSCA regularly promotes thoughtfully-designed skateboard parks, works with city officials on sustained planning, and creates access and opportunities to get involved in skating. Aaron also leads the not-for-profit group For Pivots Sake. Lightly-loved skateboards and parts are collected and rebuilt into new boards, which are donated to marginalized youth in Ottawa.
